Minutes of Meeting of BMSCE-AAA

Date: June 3, 1997

Dear Alumni:

To finalize some of the details of the B.M.S. College of Engineering Alumni Association's membership, office holders, and activities a meeting was held on May 24, 1997 at Mr. Balu Begoore's residence. The agenda for the meeting was previously discussed with Mr. Vijaya Chandra as he was not able to attend the meeting. The following were in attendance:

  • B. Begoore
  • B. A. Nanjappa
  • M. Krishnamurthy
  • K. Shinde
  • B. K. Subba Rao
  • K. N. Murthy
The following are the highlights and the results of the meeting:

  • To better coordinate the activities of the association, it was agreed that Mr. C. M. Bhimsimha of Boston be added to the National Committee.
  • It was also agreed that the nominations for the Regional Core Committees be as shown in the organization chart. As you can see we need suggestions and/or volunteers for filling the remaining positions. Please talk to your friends and help us in filling these important positions. When this organization becomes fully functional we can arrange activities at national levels and accomplish many of our current day goals.
  • Mr. Krishnamurthy gave the financial details of the Association. To-date we have collected $4502/- (Four thousand five hundred two dollars). This sum includes the twenty five dollar annual membership fee plus the donations we have received towards scholarships and donor membership. The money is currently deposited in the bank and arrangements are being made to deposit the money in India so that the next year's five scholarships are paid from the interest earned. It is our effort to deposit adequate funds in India so that at least twenty scholarships per year are paid in perpetuity. As explained earlier efforts for "Tax Free Exempt" status are underway. With the help of six volunteers we gave six scholarships of Rs. 5000 each during 1996. Our sincere thanks to those volunteers and we expect the spirit to catch on.
As you all very well know the demands from the school are many. We are focusing on the scholarships only at this time. When once that goal is reached we can move on other equally important issues like adding better technical books to library and subscription to technical magazines, etc. We certainly encourage those individuals who are interested in subscribing to the magazines for the college library to do so as early as they can. They can do this either through the Alumni Association or by themselves. But please inform us of your actions. By now, if you don't, you should know that a room in the College Hostel is available for the visiting Alumni to stay for a couple of days. You can do so by reserving through the Principal's office. Of course you are expected to give a presentation or conduct a workshop or other educational activity.

Also attached for your information and use is a copy of the by-laws. It is a living document and will be updated or revised as needed. The annual membership fee will be due on October 1, 1997. Please make sure to fill and mail the membership form along with your payment. Our year, for all activities, is October 1 through September 30. We need your financial support to function in an orderly fashion and succeed in our mission. Please help us generously.

Thank You,

K. N. Murthy
