UPDATE FROM LOS ANGELES BASED GROUPAbout 30 former BMS students with family had a get together on September 28th at KrishnaMurthy's house, which is in a suburb of Los Angeles.The typical lavish south Indian dinner was provided by Mrs. Laxmi krishnaMurthy.Our chief guest was Dr. Haranath the Principal of BMS College who was touring America.There appeared to be a general consensus by all to pursue the idea of having the Alumni's goal of providing annual Scholarship's to first year BMS students that meet the merit and means qualifications. The following are some of the highlights of the first meeting:So far we have collected $2352 with a membership count of 14.Major contribution for this fund till now is by K.R. Narayan (65 Mechanical) from N.J. who has donated $1000. We would like to start the Scholarship next year depending on how successful we are in increasing the membership from all over America. Dr. Haranath was also interested in us looking at the possibility of helping in some way with the upcoming BMS golden jubilee celebrations. We decided to table it for future meetings. In order to get atleast an informal scholarship started this year, the following four members have agreed to donate Rs. 5000 each in Bangalore that is to be used to give out 4 scholarship for first year students.
K N Murthy K. N.Murthy is currently in Bangalore and will be meeting with Dr. Haranath to finalize this and decide on the selection process of the deserved students. The next meeting is to be scheduled in november or early part of december, which would be a PotLuck dinner. -Raghu Nanjappa
