B. M. S. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
---------------------------------------------------

It has been the intention of several of the graduates of B.M.S. College of Engineering to form an Alumni Association, mainly to promote quality engineering education in the college from which we received our formal education and to provide assistance to certain deserving students to help them complete their education. Although this noble thought has occurred to many of us, our busy lives here did not allow us time to promote this cause. A few months ago, in one of our casual get-togethers, some of us decided to embark on the venture. To solicit participation from all the graduates residing the Northern America, we made announcements in Indian newspapers on the east coast as well as the west coast. Unfortunately, response has been poor and sporadic.

Although we understand many of the reasons for this, our desire to start an Alumni Association and initiate the program has been as keen and intense as the day we began our discussions.

With the above goals in mind, we are pleased and excited to report that the B.M.S. Alumni Association has been formed. The following officers have been nominated and have agreed to serve:

~ K. N. Murthy, President 818-366-7683
~ B. Begoore, Secretary 714-651-1626
~ M. Krishnamurthy, Treasurer 909-899-4273
~ B. A. Nanjappa, Vice President 714-961-1625
~ B. N. Nagaraj, Vice President 714-441-1420
~ J. Kariappa, Vice President 714-523-2201

To register this organization a a non-profit organization and obtain a tax deducible status, we have a lot of work to do. But we also have a sense of urgency in putting this idea into action.

B.M.S. Engineering College is planning to celebrate its GOLDEN JUBILEE YEAR (50 years of providing great education to the community) starting August 22, 1996. We feel that this is probably the most appropriate time to immediately begin collecting funds for student scholarships. Considering the number of college alumni in Northern America, a target of U.S. $40,000 for the starting fund is deemed achievable. We request that each and every alumnus contribute, as a minimum, $100 towards the scholarship fund (however, we encourage everyone to contribute as much over and above this amount as possible). Deposited in an Indian bank, this sum ($40,000) would provide an interest of over two lakhs - sufficient to give twenty students $10,000 rupees each, the only criteria for eligibility being "merit and means". One of our chosen local representatives in the selection committee will ensure that the student eligibility criteria are met in the distribution of funds.

As you can see, a nominal sum towards the fund can do wonders for the needy and deserving. I am quite certain that the B.M.S. students of today who will benefit from this program will be more than happy to carry this same spirit in the future. We will, in the future, expand this association, and have alumni get- togethers at national and local levels. We will also plan activities that will create a good network and enhance our college's reputation as a highly reputable institution of learning. We need help from all to spread the word and help us succeed in this small but deserving and important initial effort.

Accordingly, we need your input, ideas, and participation. Mr. Balachandra Begoore is going to Bangalore and will be meeting with the Principal, Dr. Haranath. We want him to carry with him the good efforts and funding details that we have initiated, and we need your contributions to do so.

We have tried to convey a lot in one letter. The exciting prospect that this will grow into something big and very meaningful keeps us going. We honestly feel that we owe a great deal to our institution and, at this time, this is the least we can do - and at a modest sacrifice.

So please respond, by writing a check in the name of M. Krishnamurthy indicating that the proceeds are for B.M.S. ALUMNI. Mail this to M. Krishnamurthy at 6913 Basswood Place, Rancho Cucamonga, California, 91739. We will get the registration for non-profit and other efforts going as quickly as possible, and you will be fully informed of all developments and activities.
